some recent work . . .

click on the videos below - be patient as they "buffer". Return to Southlight website

This was a fun pre Xmas session - hot sunny evening & a fun team!

Loesch Furniture

[wpvideo ZurkMMVq]

This local Petone furniture factory make our custom Block frames. Their vast factory is high tech with some amazing machinery that can produce a variety of products - I was keen to document a little of the action!

Island Bay

[wpvideo r2RCXjDc]

These photos were "on location" at my other favourite Wellington bay, on the south coast. You can sense summer is just around the corner & these three kids are close enough to their beach to make the most of it! My sessions with youngsters are always fun. We avoid "posing" & let stuff happen - with patience we achieve some lasting portraits. Thumbs up to this crew!

Life on the Farm

[wpvideo Ghsy65kp]

I love driving over to the farming community in the Wairarapa. This family's environment was where Dad grew up and it was fun following the kids around their home & then out into the countryside. My portraits are quite casual and you can sense the family enjoyed the session. Black & white fits the bill - very flattering and adds a sort of earthy feel to the photos.

A 2yr old buddy

[wpvideo flkLUWLZ]

I have been photographing this young lad for a wee while (in fact I shot his Mum & Dad's wedding) and to celebrate another significant birthday, I knocked at their door & recorded another glimpse of their life - just before they hopped off overseas.

Just Paterson

Concept here was to give a feeling of a high level of professionalism whilst showing many of the "faces" of this successful Wellington company. I produced over 300 images within about an hour and edited these down to manageable number. This "show" demonstrates the power of adding multiple layers to keep a viewer's attention.

Roche Diagnostics

More photography at Aotea Pathology (see below) with emphasis on Roche equipment. This show is a stand alone promotional DVD plus we provided a web friendly version.

Birthday Bash

This was a fun "bit of a do", celebrating a significant birthday for her highness! I met the family earlier whilst they lunched in town then they all came around to the Bays & we hit the sand dunes. The end result was a DVD show along with framed photos of the family.

Aotea Pathology

A fascinating job - photographing inside this high tech. environment in Courtenay Place. We moved quickly, trying not to disturb the technicians' work flow. "Fast lenses and shallow depth of field" is a technique that lends itself to situation like this where background detail is not essential.

My Nikon D3 camera has the capability to shoot at high ISO (sensitivity) whilst retaining amazing quality.

Moonshine

Intense colour? - despite my passion for black & white portraits, I sometimes consider other options. In this case, the fall colours just asked for this treatment - what do you think?

Titahi Bay

What a delightful family & such a neat setting in their newly aquired home, right above the boat sheds in Titahi Bay. Looking out to Mana Island this bay is uniquely Wellington south coast.

Whilst I normally create my portraits in black & white, the brief for this session was to include "campaign" images for Hekia's candidacy this year with the National party.

Including the whole family oftens helps make individual portraits far less stressful. This was a great shoot!

mokopuna clothing

Despite recent rather abject winter weather, we have been able to find windows of opportunity - in this case a "summer shoot" for mokopuna clothing!
